John Akhnoukh, M.D. is a board-certified pain management specialist. A native New Yorker, Dr. Akhnoukh has expertise in interventional acute, chronic and cancer pain; neuromodulation; psychological counseling; alternative therapies; medical ethics; and hospice and palliative care.
Dr. Akhnoukh uses multiple modalities to reduces pain, including minimally invasive decompression therapies, spine and joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, cryotherapy, PRP/stem-cell therapy, and spinal cord stimulation.
Persistent or chronic pain may cause feelings such as anger, hopelessness, sadness and anxiety. With a mission to improve the function and quality of life of his patients and to treat pain effectively, Dr. Akhnoukh not only addresses the physical but also the emotional aspects of pain.
Dr. Akhnoukh is affiliated with North American Partners of Anesthesia at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital. He belongs to numerous pain management and anesthesiology professional organizations.
Dr. Akhnoukh studied medicine at an accelerated 7-year medical program associated with CUNY City College of New York and received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai West. He then pursued and completed a fellowship in Pain Management at the Weill Cornell Tri-Insti-tutional Pain Fellowship Program, which is widely regarded as one of the top training programs in the country, completing core rotations at three world-renowned hospitals: New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Hospital for Special Surgery.
An avid sports enthusiast, Dr. Akhnoukh also volunteers with several children’s programs.
